New SGS certified test result for FOAMplus® 7008-BIO

Metzingen, july 2026. FOAMplus® 7008-BIO has received SGS certification for its test result about partial biodegradation under controlled laboratory conditions (ASTM D5338), reaching 61% in 180 days.

ASTM D5338 determines the degree and rate of aerobic biodegradation of plastic materials upon exposure to a controlled composting environment. This test is completed under laboratory conditions and at thermophilic temperatures (58 °C / 136,4 °F) using reduced-size samples of foam (e.g., ground specimens) to ensure optimal microbial contact.

It should be noted that regular polyurethane foam doesn’t normally show any biodegradation. The test has been conducted and the result certified by SGS.

Storopack would like to highlight this important result as demonstration of its unique technology and its ongoing efforts toward reducing reliance on fossil resources and improving environmental performance.

The test conditions are not representative of the material’s performance in its form of packaging cushion. The foam is not meant to be compostable and should be managed within existing plastic waste streams at end-of-life.
