Storopack wins Zero Impact Packaging Award 2025 for RENATURE® Thermo

Storopack has been awarded the Zero Impact Packaging Award 2025 (“Trophée Zero Impact Packaging 2025”) for its pioneering, sustainable insulation packaging RENATURE® Thermo. The “Trophées Zero Impact Packaging” are the successor to the “Oscars de l'Emballage” of Emballages Magazine in France and recognize innovations that significantly reduce the ecological footprint of packaging. The award highlights RENATURE® Thermo as a forward-looking alternative for temperature-sensitive shipments in e-commerce, food logistics, and the pharmaceutical industry.

The award-winning solution was submitted jointly with the customer “Easy Barf”, a French specialist in high-quality raw food for pets. Easy Barf was the first company in France to use RENATURE® Thermo for its frozen shipments. Together, Storopack and Easy Barf demonstrated that even highly temperature-sensitive goods can be shipped safely – with packaging made almost entirely from renewable raw materials.

Sustainable thermal insulation and intelligent design for fast and ergonomic packaging
RENATURE® Thermo is an innovative insulation system made of moisture-resistant kraft paper panels and a compostable filling consisting mainly of plant-based starch, which is an industrial by-product. With the intelligent U-shaped design of the panels, two pads effectively cover all six sides around the shipped goods and protect them perfectly in the box, ensuring that perishable goods remain safe and intact. This significantly speeds up the packaging process, improves ergonomics, and reduces the number of steps required - a significant advantage in dynamic logistics environments. The low density saves resources and ensures low weight, which further reduces transport costs and emissions.

The panels are reusable and easy to dispose of after use: Consumers can separate the two components and dispose of the paper sleeve as recycled paper and the plant-based starch in their home compost - certified by TÜV Austria. Thanks to its exceptional insulating properties, the system maintains the required temperatures for 48 to 72 hours, depending on the cooling medium and design. Easy Barf, for example, can ship frozen raw food products at -18°C for 48 hours via standard parcel services – without any active cooling.

“We are very proud that RENATURE® Thermo has been honored with the Zero Impact Packaging Award 2025,” says Charles Poisson, Director Group Sustainability and R&D Molding Europe at Storopack. “This award not only emphasizes that sustainability and performance can go hand in hand, but also the close and trusting cooperation with our customer Easy Barf.”

RENATURE® Thermo is available both as a standalone insulation solution and as a complete packaging set including cardboard box and cooling packs – depending on customer requirements.
