STOROPACK WINS THE PackTheFuture AWARD 2020 IN TWO CATEGORIES
Metzingen, May 2020. Packaging specialist Storopack received two of the ten highly coveted “PackTheFuture 2020 – Sustainable Plastic Packaging Awards.” The award in the Product Protection category went to the Onco-System transport box, a temperature-controlled, sector-specific solution for safe shipment of vital medications such as the cytostatic agents and infusion therapies used by pharmacies, hospitals, and laboratories. The jury also presents the Special Award for exceptional innovation, which this year went to Storopack for the collaboration with its customer LivingPackets for the innovative packaging solution THE BOX.
“With THE BOX, the startup LivingPackets has made a commitment to revolutionize the world of e-commerce. It was exciting for our team and a real pleasure to participate in the development of the EPP body. The reusable transport box made from EPP is 100% recyclable, foldable and is guaranteed to be used more than 1,000 times, all the while limiting environmental impact and transport costs,” explains Charles Poisson, Director of Research & Development at Storopack. The innovative design made from expanded polypropylene (EPP) was developed with the technical support of the packaging specialist. Featuring intelligent technologies, several sensors, an Internet connection, an E-ink display, and an integrated holding mechanism, THE BOX fully developed by the startup is not intended for one-time application, but can be used as a service instead. E-commerce companies only pay for direct use.
A Specialized Solution for the Medical Sector
Storopack’s Onco-System sector-specific solution won over the jury thanks to its reusability and the combination of smooth material surface and a removable lining for simple, effective cleaning of all the components. The packaging solution for temperature-controlled shipment is designed specifically for the requirements of highly sensitive applications and guarantees that vital medications can reach the patient safely and at the right temperature. This is made possible by the proven phase change material (PCM) technology of the cooling packs made of hard plastic, whose dew point can be precisely tailored to the required temperature range. Made from durable EPP, the system solutions can be used repeatedly. The size of the Onco-System box is also tailored to IV bags, allowing them to lie flat, which prevents damage during transportation such as kinks in the bag or at the predetermined breaking points of infusion instruments.
Sustainable, Innovative Solutions for Challenges in Product Shipment
Some of the most important requirements for packaging solutions today include the reduction of resource consumption, the use of recycled material, an eco-friendly design, and reliable protection during the transport of goods. The PackTheFuture Award acknowledges packaging solutions that fulfill these requirements with a high degree of innovation and sustainability. The French-German packaging award is based on an initiative organized by ELIPSO, the French association for plastic and flexible packaging, as well as IK Industrievereinigung Kunststoffverpackungen e.V. This year, European companies submitted 58 packaging innovations, with 14 nominations and ten winners. An award ceremony for the fifth edition of the PackTheFuture Award is planned for November at the ALL4PACK packaging trade fair in Paris.
